Sitting with a cup of coffee this morning, cold April showers were pouring down out my window and thunder was rolling … it was so awesome and beautiful.
O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
My heart just wells up with wonder and praise to our God and His power. This April has revealed it many times over. Two Saturdays ago I joined Bruce, Stacy and Tom at our mom’s to work in her yard, picking up branches and raking leaves and spiffing it up for her. It was 80 degrees that Saturday; short-sleeved t-shirts and cold beers were appropriate.
That same evening, a string of tornados moved through western Iowa causing great destruction in Mapleton, where I attended school and still know many families. They moved up into Pocahontas county where my husband’s family farm is, knocking down the garage and barn. The other buildings were ok and other farmsteads suffered a great deal more damage.
The next week we spent the day at the family farm picking up branches, breaking up the garage and pitching it into the fire, and cleaning up. The barn will be another day.
What was cool on that day, was that the weather was entirely different than just a week before at my mom’s. All week prior had been extremely windy; Sunday was cool (but not cold) and still. And at one point I realized something was falling out of the clear sky – I thought at first I thought it was ash from the fire we were burning, but realized it was big, fat, flakes of snow.
It was just felt like God was blessing our work, and it was beautiful. Our Creator God has such awesome power and beautiful diversity … how can I keep from singing?
A few cleanup photos …
